HOME VISITS
Website Menu
"There is a fairly wide-held belief that patients have an automatic right to a home visit from a GP within core hours (8am to 6.30pm). This is not in fact the case.

"Practices will reach a “reasonable opinion” about whether to attend to a patient at their residence based upon information received on the condition of the patient, and whether it would be inappropriate to expect the patient to attend the practice premises.

"There is nothing to prevent the GP from arranging for the referral of a patient without first seeing the patient, in cases where their medical condition makes that course of action appropriate.

If a patient is encouraged to come into the surgery, it is often on the basis that this is where the best care can be provided. The specialist equipment is located at the practice, tests can be carried out more easily there, and drugs issued."

RCGP
These are only for those patients who are housebound because of illness or disability, or are too ill to come to the surgery.

If possible, telephone the surgery before 10.00am and explain the problem to the receptionists - one of the doctors may ring to discuss your problem. We try to visit the most ill patients first. The receptionist will ask for your telephone number as the doctor may need it. Visits requested after 12 noon may be seen the following day unless they are urgent.

Home visits take up a lot of a doctor's time and often they are unnecessary. Generally, it is not harmful to bring a child with a temperature or a rash to the surgery and you may be asked to do this. Please help us by coming into the surgery whenever possible as consultations at the surgery enable the doctor to use all the equipment available in order to make an informed diagnosis
NHS 111 makes it easier for you to access local NHS HEALTHCARE SERVICES. You can call 111 when you need medical help fast but it’s not a 999 emergency. NHS 111 is a fast and easy way to get the right help, whatever the time 24/7 all year round.
